On the front of a 300Tdi there is an idler bearing pressed into the front cover. This bearing has a pulley bolted to it and the viscous fan screws to it. Until recently if this bearing failed the whole front cover needed to be replaced. This bearing and front nose boss "also prone to failure" is now available separately. The old bearing needs to be pressed out and the new one in.
