Ball Joint Rear H/Duty Standard

  • Description

As Les Richmond Automotive specialise in the modified and performance extremist we have found many genuine Land Rover items do not stand up to the task required. One of these items is the ball joint rear. The ball joint is situated on the top, centre of the rear diff housing attached to an "A" frame.

The very early genuine ball joint was quite good back in the mid 80's. It was well manufactured and adjustable and gave a good service life. Unfortunately like many things in life price has overcome quality and the replacement units available are now non adjustable and do not seem to last in a standard vehicle little own a modified one.

The ball joint rear is used to fix the rear diff in position. It stops it from moving forward or backward as well as left or right. The ball joint also stops the axle housing from rolling over under acceleration or breaking. The ball joint rear is under huge amounts of strain and this strain can be increased by the use of larger engines, larger tyres but nothing worse than a rear diff lock low range and a big hill.

LR Automotive have sourced an Australian manufactured ball joint rear. It is adjustable, grease able, serviceable and will outlast all standard ball joints 4 fold. This ball joint should be considered, to replace the original unit, once it has worn out or modifications are been carried out putting more pressure on the unit.
